What Is Barre?
Barre is a workout stemming from Pilates and ballet, that’s done to the beat of motivating music and typically includes a ballet barre, but doesn’t have to. It’s low impact, focuses on isolating each muscle group, includes work and stretches, and is suitable for anyone of any fitness level.

I grew up dancing on a competitive dance team through my childhood and early adulthood, and in 2010 found a love for fitness where I competed in multiple fitness competitions with my husband. Then in 2016 I found Barre... the perfect combo of fitness and structured movement to upbeat music. I fell in LOVE! I left class thinking "this was made specifically for me". I got certified and have been teaching ever since. My dream to open a studio started back in my dancing days and only grew as Barre became a huge part of my life. Raise the Barre is a place I get to help people de-stress, reach goals, and find their healthy happy!
When I'm not teaching I'm enjoying every minute with my son and GJ Firefighter/Paramedic husband, who are my "Why" in life, and who make me the proudest mother and wife daily!

I started gymnastics when I was 3-years-old. I used to practice 3 hours in the gym and condition 30 minutes of that. I took my first barre class in 2016. It was similar, in ways, to in-gym conditioning. I walked away feeling so refreshed and loved the full body workout. You don’t just have to be an athlete to take a barre class and that’s one reason why I love teaching it. I love to challenge myself and hopefully challenge others.
I am an OR Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital. Outside of all that and the studio, I coach gymnastics and get to throw some skills here and there for the fun of it. I cannot wait to help people challenge themselves and so happy to be here at Raise The Barre!

I fell in love with Barre 5 years ago and have been teaching Barre for about 4 years. What I love about Barre is that it's an exercise that anyone could do and that you never plateau in this exercise! I love that it's low impact and easy on the joints and that it still challenges me, even after 5 years!
I'm a senior at Colorado Mesa University about to graduate from the nursing program in May! When I'm not in the studio or at the hospital, I'm out at the barn working with my horses. I'm passionate about health and fitness and helping people reach their goals and I'm so excited to be a part of Raise the Barre!

I grew up playing every sport I could and was always athletic. I played baseball, basketball, golf, tennis and volleyball. I was first introduced to barre in 2018 and I started going consistently leading up to snowboard season that year to build up my core strength and have better balance. I love the community that I have found at Raise the Barre so training to become an instructor was a natural next step in my fitness journey. HIIT is my jam and I love that barre is always challenging no matter how long you have been practicing. In my spare time I enjoy quilting and snowboarding and hiking with my husband.

I found Barre a few years ago while looking for something active that was different from the usual uncomfortable unstructured gym sessions. I really needed something fun and motivating to keep me coming back and this turned out to be perfect for me! I love that Barre is for every body, every age, and every skill level. I started training in 2020 to become an Instructor and have loved every minute of it! Helping people reach their goals for their physical and emotional wellbeing is what I am passionate about. For someone who has never tried it before, or has trouble committing to a gym or a physical fitness plan I would say come let us show you how fun Barre can be! I run a small business here in Grand Junction teaching classes on Resin art. I have two incredible boys and a fantastic husband who are my entire world. When I am not at the Studio or my shop I am hanging out with family or working from home. I feel so blessed to be part of the Raise the Barre team!

I grew up playing competitive soccer here in the grand valley. I played collegiate soccer and tennis. I found Barre after having my third child and realizing I needed something new. I was very afraid that I would not fit in but quickly found that was not an issue. I love that everytime I take Barre it challenges me in different new ways. Teaching HIIT brings me back to the days of conditioning. It is my comfort zone. Outside of Raise the Barre I am a FF/ EMT and mother of three. I enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities, baking, cooking, reading, and knitting.

Hi! My name is Rochelle and I am a Colorado Native originally from Denver, but since graduating Colorado Mesa University in 2021, have been loving building my life out here in Grand Junction! I got my Bachelor's of Science in Fitness and Health Promotion, and love all things Fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. I found my passion to teach group exercise classes in college, and started teaching barre my senior year. I love all aspects of barre, it is tough, creative, and every class is a little different so you can always expect something new and mentally/physically challenging! I love being a part of the RTB team because as instructors, we all bring our own spice to our classes and get to learn from each other. I can't wait to see you in class!

After I had my babies I needed to find something that made me feel like me again to get my body moving. The standard gym just wasn’t the place for me I never knew exactly what to do. I ended up trying barre and absolutely feel in love with it and the way it made me feel. Not only is the community great but I saw results really fast it felt so good. When the opportunity came along to try instructor training I immediately jumped on it. I have been doing barre for 3 years now and have found a new love for teaching it. I love helping people meet their goals and feel good about themselves. I feel so lucky to be apart of the amazing Raise the Barre community. Tani has welcomed all of us with open arms. If I am not teaching barre I am with my kids!
Emma Shileny
Barre-Tender
Previously Emma only did HIIT workouts; however, being a person living with chronic illnesses, her body couldn't keep up all the time. She found Barre in 2020 and instantly fell in love with the approachable challenge of each class, while still leaving refreshed and full of energy. Emma strongly believes in the importance of the mind-body connection to reach optimal health, both mentally and physically.
Emma recently graduated with her BSN and can't wait to start her career at St. Mary's Hospital. In her free time, Emma loves to do anything that involves traveling with her fiancé Matthew, spending time outdoors with their dog, Aspen, and being active. She also serves/bartends on the side. Emma feels so excited to be joining the RTB family to share her passion in barre with other strong women, and we are equally excited and lucky to have her!
